Woman falls 40 metres in WA cave

A 72-year-old woman who fell down 300 steps in a cave in Western Australia's southwest is being treated for minor back injuries.

The woman was walking through a cave near Margaret River on Sunday when she tripped and fell 40 metres down the stairs.

A St John Ambulance spokesman said the woman was carried out of the cave on a stretcher after rescue crews determined it wasn't safe to winch her out.

She is being treated at the local hospital.
