Greens may back anti-terror measures

The Greens will study any proposal for tougher anti-terror laws before voting on them, senator Christine Milne says.

But the Greens leader told journalists in Sydney on Sunday she is wary of the government using the fear of terrorism to expand its surveillance.

Ms Milne was referring to reports the Abbott government is planning to introduce tough new measures to ban certain organisations in Australia.

"We don't support terrorism in any shape or form, but we're also aware that the government uses these new regulations to effect everybody," Ms Milne said on Sunday.

"We want to have a good look at the extent to which the government is trying to use the fear of terrorism to expand their surveillance."
