Sydney hit-and-run victim identified

The woman killed in an alleged hit-and-run in Sydney's southwest has been identified as a 58-year-old from Yagoona.

Paramedics weren't able to revive the woman after she was hit by a car on the Hume Highway at Yagoona, about 7.20pm on Thursday.

Twenty-year-old Ahmad Saraya turned himself in to police in the early hours of Friday morning and has been charged with failing to stop after a crash, but in court on Friday police flagged the possibility of fresh charges.

It took a full day for investigators to learn the dead woman's identity, but on Saturday morning police announced she had been identified.

Her name has not been released.

Saraya will next appear at Bankstown Local Court on Monday.

Police are still hunting for the driver of a second car, described only as a blue or black two-door sedan, which was spotted at the crash site.
