Family held at gunpoint for five hours in Adelaide

A family has been held at gunpoint for more than five hours in suburban Adelaide.

Police said the three men burst into the house on Harrison Grove at Northfield and held a man, two women and four children at gunpoint at about midday yesterday.

It is understood they wanted a car and tens of thousands of dollars in cash.

One of the men then took the male home owner to a business, where property was being stored.

“As a result, he was able to escape and flee the scene, he then contacted police,” Chief Inspector Tony Crameri said.

Meanwhile, the women and children were held captive in the home.

“It was terrifying for the family, however I must say that this was a targeted attack and we advise people that if you get involved in criminality, you can expect that other criminals will target you,” Det Insp Crameri said.

Police said the victims, including four children aged between five and 16 are traumatised and receiving medical treatment.

Police said they withheld details of the crime for almost 24 hours because it took that long to establish the facts.

Two of the intruders are described as Caucasian, while the third was of Asian appearance.

They are believe to be driving a red Holden commodore, and had already left the scene by the time police arrived.
