Triple fatal on SA's west coast

Three people have died after a car crashed into a tree near Penong on the state’s west coast.

A farmer stumbled across the wreckage on the Eyre Highway, 12 kilometres from Penong, just before 8am.

All three people in the car died at the scene.

The bodies of the male driver and a male passenger were found inside the car, while the woman was found on the bitumen.

Amazingly, a dog who was in the car with them survived the crash.

It is not known where the people are from.

The highway was closed for most of the day.

The fatalities take the road toll to 74, compared to 62 at the same time last year.
