Teen's miracle recovery after city plunge
A teenager who survived a 25-metre plunge through the glass ceiling of a heritage shopping arcade in Melbourne's CBD is awake in hospital and talking.
Lucas Bruce, 18, was on the fourth floor of the Block Arcade in Collins Street when he slipped and fell.
He plunged through a glass ceiling before crashing to the floor of the arcade.
Security cameras captured the moment the teenager landed amongst horrified onlookers who rushed to his aid.
Lucas suffered extensive injuries in the fall, including a number of broken bones, but, incredibly, he lived to tell the tale.
He has undergone surgery at the Royal Melbourne Hospital and is now listed as stable.
The teenager's friends visited him in hospital today, telling 7News he is out of intensive care and, remarkably, awake and talking.
"He's got broken feet, broken legs, broken pelvis, broken wrists and a fractured spine," friend Josh Dowdell told 7News.
Amazingly, the teenager escaped without any serious head injuries.
Lucas and two female friends caught a lift to the fourth floor of the Block Arcade on Wednesday afternoon.
He is believed to have made his way to the exterior of the building and while at the highest point attempted to climb a short distance to another ledge when he lost his footing and slipped.
It was initially thought the group had gained access to graffiti, but the teenager's friends say he was just doing it for the thrill and not to cause trouble.
"I hope he gets better," Josh added. "I hope he can walk and run again - that's the main thing for me."
Police are investigating the incident.
