Vic man arrested after attempted robbery, pursuit

A man has suffered serious facial injuries and remains in hospital following a peak hour pursuit over an attempted burglary in Melbourne's

Police say the thief was caught breaking into a vehicle in Kororoit approach, Caroline Springs at around 7.10am.

After being challenged by the owner, the culprit fled the scene in a stolen vehicle and a wild chase ensued.

Police say the pursuit ended when the vehicles collided with a third car at the intersection of Rockbank Road and Caroline Springs.

The alleged thief then attempted to escape on foot but was chased by the victim and another man.

After jumping several fences, the pursuit ended about 500 metres away in Milburn Circuit.

The alleged thief was restrained until police arrived. Police have recovered a shovel which is believed to have been used during the citizen's arrest.

A 25-year-old Deer Park man suffered suspected facial fractures and was taken to hospital where he remains under police guard.

The victim, a 23-year-old Caroline Springs man, has been quizzed by police and is expected to be charged on summons with assault and reckless conduct.

A third man has been released pending further enquiries.
