Coldest Brisbane night since last year

Shivers and scarves in Brisbane were justified this morning as the thermometer plunged to the lowest level since winter last year.

The overnight temperature in Brisbane was 5.7C – the lowest since August 19 last year, the Bureau of Meteorology's Lauren Murphy told the Brisbane Times.

Ms Murphy said Coolangatta fell to 4 degrees and Ipswich plummeted to 0.8C.

But she said the coldest place was Oakey where the mercury dropped to -3.1C.

“Yes, it was the coldest morning since last winter,” she said.

And she said more of the same is forecast for tomorrow as dry conditions continue through to Wednesday for the State of Origin game.

“It should be clear and beaut [for the match],” Ms Murphy said.

However the end of the week should bring about a south-easterly change which Ms Murphy said would boost moisture levels and apparent temperatures.

“We should be heading back to double digits – which is more where I like it,” she said.

A few scattered showers are expected for Brisbane and exposed parts of the coast due to the change in winds.
