Armed siege ends in arrest
A 55-year-old man is in custody after an alleged five-and-a-half hour siege incident in Melbourne's east.
Officers were called to the Blackburn North home shortly before 9.30am (AEST) on Thursday after reports the armed man had taken his 47-year-old ex partner hostage.
The woman held in the alleged stand off was released shortly after midday, a police spokesman said.
She is being treated for minor injuries at Box Hill Hospital.
Special Operations Group members spent most of the day negotiating with the man who emerged from the property a short time ago, police say.
No charges have yet been laid.
