Worker dies after freak accident

A worker has been killed during a freak accident at a worksite for the National Broadband Network south of Sydney.

The 56-year-old concreter had gone to retrieve tools from a truck in Kiama at lunch time.

He became trapped after a second truck being driven by an NBN contractor suddenly lurched forward.

It's believed paramedics tried to revive the man but he died at the scene.

Police and Workcover are now investigating.

Senator Stephen Conroy has released a statement saying he is saddened by the incident.

"The thoughts of the Government are with the family and friends of the deceased, and those involved in this shocking tragedy," the statement said.

"The Government will closely monitor the outcomes of the investigations that are now underway."
