Quirk announces bus route changes

Nine Brisbane bus routes will be scrapped and more than one third of the remainder changed as part of a new review of the network.

Lord Mayor Graham Quirk insists changes are minimal, but the Premier fears it will force fares to rise even more.

“We believe there's a rationale - a proper rationale - behind each of these changes,” Cr Quirk said.

“There will be 61 routes where we will have a reduced number of services.

Of the 235 bus services in Brisbane, nine will be scrapped, a further 80 will be changed and Graham Quirk says 19 of those will be improved.

“There will be 61 routes where we will have a reduced number of services,” he said.

Some half-hourly buses will be cut to hourly during off-peak times.

Of the nine bus routes to be cut, three (the 462, 465 and 466) stop at Richlands train station, ferrying passengers to and from the location.

Other bus routes getting the axe are largely peak hour services spread across Brisbane.

The Lord Mayor says unlike with the dumped Translink review, coverage will remain through alternative routes.

As Seven News revealed last night, all BUZ and Glider routes remain unchanged.

Residents have until the 20th of May to give their feedback.
