Queensland mum 'put snake in son's mouth'

A Queensland mother who photographed her son with a snake in his mouth has been fined for unlawfully possessing the creature.

The woman, 24, posted the photograph of her son and the black-headed snake named 'China' on Facebook on March 16th and was subsequently charged by authorities.

The single mother of two was investigated by the Department of Child Safety, however it did not pursue the matter because the non-venomous reptile was seized from her home soon after posting the pictures.

The mother, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was not charged in relation to offences regarding her son - however she was charged with unlawfully possessing the python, and pleaded guilty.

The Magistrate asked the woman why she put a snake in her son's mouth, to which the mum replied: "it was around his lip".

The picture has been deleted from Facebook, but there are several other photos of the reptile with the woman and her children.

No conviction was recorded.
