Citybound lanes were the first to reopen Friday afternoon, followed by all westbound lanes, however there is still traffic backed up in the area with delays expected to continue for some time.

Emergency crews were quickly on the scene to extinguish the blaze, before the burnt out shell of the truck had to be loaded and taken away causing the significant delays.

A broken down vehicle inside the M5 East main tunnel is adding to the traffic drama and causing even more dealays for motorists.

There are no reports of injuries or on how the fire started.
