Body pulled from river following London attack could be Xavier Thomas

A body recovered from the River Thames following the terrorist attack on London Bridge could be a missing French national, according to police.

Metropolitan Police said detectives were appealing for information about 45-year-old Xavier Thomas who hasn’t been seen since the night of the attack.

It follows police recovering the body of a man from the river, near Limehouse.

Police are yet to identify the man but have informed Mr Thomas’ family about the find.

Mr Xavier was in London for the weekend with his girlfriend Christine Delcros who was badly injured in the attack and underwent a two-hour operation this afternoon to reset her pelvis.

The couple were reportedly walking south over London Bridge about the time the attack began.

They had been out with friends, who have been unable to find him since.

Witness claims suggest Mr Thomas may have been struck by the van, resulting in him being thrown into the river.

On Monday French Foreign minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said two French citizens had been missing since Saturday’s attack.

Le Drian, during a visit to the French embassy, said one French citizen had died eight injured, four of which are in a serious condition.

The four others suffered less serious injuries and two of them are not in hospital anymore, he told reporters.

Le Drian said cooperation between France and Britain on security issues was strong and would not suffer from Britain's vote to leave the European Union.

"The relationship between our intelligence services is exemplary, there is no reason that this would change," he said.
