Fresh food fright: Woman finds redback spider in supermarket broccoli

It’s the perfect excuse to avoid eating your vegetables.

A Townsville woman was horrified when she found a female redback spider in a head of supermarket broccoli.

Tamahra Moore, 32 of North Ward, told the Townsville Bulletin she would have been better off ordering takeaway.

“I was chopping all my vegies up for the week when I saw a flash of black and red, the bloody thing just crawled out,” Mrs Moore said.

Mrs Moore took a container with the critter back to Coles North Ward and said the ladies at the front counter “freaked out.”

A Coles spokeswoman said the supermarket chain was investigating quality control to avoid any further incidents.

Last year a Gold Coast woman complained of finding a redback in her broccoli bought from Woolworths.
