Pauline Hanson drinks halal-certified milk despite being opposed to it
Pauline Hanson's storm in a tea cup continues after she unwittingly revealed she uses a halal-certified brand of milk.
The Senator-elect, who says she strongly opposes halal certification and claimed 98 per cent of Australians oppose it, had attempted to douse claims she supported the Coles brand milk by posting a video of two milk brands inside her fridge.
“It must be a slow news morning for some outlets. I woke up this morning to find claims I support Coles milk,” she posted to her Facebook account.
“I thought those people without lives might like to see what's in the fridge today.”
But the innocent photo has failed to dampen the milk scandal, with one of the brands, Farmhouse Gold - a milk catered to Australian Muslims.
Farmhouse Gold is listed on the website halalchoices.com.au as being fully halal-certified.
It comes just days after Ms Hanson, in a Channel Seven election interview, said “I’m not interested in halal … I don’t believe in halal certification”.
Ms Hanson had come under fire over the use of Coles brand milk, after she called for an inquiry into milk prices and the undercutting of farmers in Australia.
James Ashby, spokesman for Ms Hanson, said he could guarantee the milk used in the video was not a Coles or Woolworths generic brand.
Mr Ashby said the closest supermarket to Ms Hanson’s home, where the video was shot, was at least 60 kilometres away and the milk in the video would most likely have come from a small local store.
He said it was unfortunate the bottle had been placed facing away from the camera because a clear shot would have shown the product was not a cut-price brand.
