Men sit and watch as woman is s*** shamed in social experiment

A social experiment exposing an appalling lack of public intervention during a verbal attack on a woman in the UK has gone viral online.

The video shows a male approach a female, pointing at her while holding a can of beer as he victimises her for her outfit out of the blue in London's busy Piccadilly Circus.

"Why are you dressed like a s***?" the man is heard saying.

Shocked, the woman responds: "I'm dressed like a woman."

"Are you soliciting? Are you selling your body?" the man persists.

"I'm not soliciting anything," the woman says.

The pair, both actors from viral video producers Trollstation, start to engage members of the public sitting nearby.

"Can you believe what he's saying to me?" the woman says, directly addressing two men.

The woman asserts she is simply waiting for her boyfriend and outwardly notes that the faux abuser is harassing her.

Neither of the men respond or acknowledge her distress.

The male actor then moves on to another pair of men sitting on a step nearby.

He asks them why they think the woman is 'dressed like a s***' and whether she is selling sex.

"I don't know man," one man says, avoiding eye contact with the woman. The other stays silent.

It's only when the male actor starts to accuse the woman of being a prostitute with a raised voice that two female witnesses interject from a few metres away, telling the male actor that 'she can wear what she wants'.

Two other men then walk what appears to be less than a metre past the pair as the abuse heats up.

They peer at the commotion and do nothing, as do the four previous men.

It's only when the male actor says 'people wonder why women get raped and abused', that the man walking close by appears to say something to intervene.

But after a quick hand gesture, he continues walking.

In total, more than 14 members of the public can be seen viewing the abuse in the clip.

Two women eating chips on a step, who intervened verbally earlier, start throwing chips and shouting back near the end of the video. One man tries to stand up and interject, but he leaves soon after being targeted by the actor as well.

These are the only attempts made by witnesses to stop the harassment.

Finally, the video ends with another female actor storming up to the pretend harasser, throwing a bottle on his face and spitting on him as he lies on the ground.

Again, no one in the surrounding area rises to help.

Trollstation describes itself as 'a Youtube channel specialising in bizarre and often surreal pranks performed on unwitting members of the public.'

"Our content is intentionally provocative and controversial with the aim to get reactions from the general public in the name of comedic satire," the page says.

VIRAL SOCIAL EXPERIMENTS

'Refugees are scum' stunt

A controversial social experiment about refugees saw a man wearing a sign, which read 'Refugees are scum', walking outside Sydney's Town Hall station.

The stunt was met with disgust from passersby, with many confronting the man, with one even ripping the sign from the man's chest.

Later on, the man changes to a sign, which reads, 'Help Refugees' and is greeted with a very different response.

The video was created by Act For Peace in an attempt to test Australia's compassion for asylum seekers.

Cringeworthy kiss experiment

A comedian in the United States has decided to see what happens if she walks up to a complete stranger in the middle of a busy New York train station and tries to kiss them.

In a video entitled ‘Kiss Me NYC’, Farah Brook begins her social experiment by saying: ‘We’re going to kiss some people in Grand Central! Let's hope I don't get punched'.

She then approaches passersby and asks for directions.

When the unsuspecting strangers stop to help, Farah makes her move, leaning in and trying to plant a smooch on their lips.

Their awkward encounters are all set to the soundtrack of Kiss Me by Sixpence.
