Salim Mehajer faces more legal trouble
The deputy mayor of Auburn Salim Mehajer has had another run in with police – this time for alleged driving offences.
He was stopped behind the wheel of an unregistered Ferrari at Punchbowl.
Police claim he was stopped again 25 minutes later after ignoring their instructions not to drive. It is now the fourth matter he is facing in the courts.
Mr Mehajer is know as ‘a colourful Sydney identity’ and overnight another splash of colour was added to his reach self-portrait.
Just before 11pm police say they saw a white Ferrari driving erratically along Canterbury Road, Punchbowl.
Officers told him someone else would have to drive but 25 minutes later different police spotted Mr Mehajer doing a u-turn at traffic lights at the intersection of Rose Street and Canterbury Road.
It was 25 minutes later but Auburn’s deputy mayor tells us he had been pulling over “to a side street for the safety of other drivers”.
He was booked again earning himself another appointment with a magistrate.
The white Ferrari was strikingly similar to the one driven by Mr Mehajer on the day 7 News revealed he was being investigated for threatening to kidnap the children of fitness instructor Bruce Herat, one of whom is Lindt Siege survivor Joel.
But in a statement to 7 News today, Mr Mehajer said the unregistered Ferrari he drove last night belongs to a friend.
“After contacting the owner, that owner claimed online payment was carried out which wasn’t cleared at the time,” he said.
Three years ago Salim Mehajer’s black Ferrari careered out of control, running down a mother and daughter on a footpath at Lidcombe. They are suing him for damages.
That law suit is one of four separate matters for which Mr Mehajer is currently before the courts, in addition to an apprehended violence order taken out by Bruce Herat, police charges of intimidation and now last night’s incident.
