SANFL revokes permission from Adelaide to wear state jumper

Commission had no knowledge of Crows' jumper change

The SANFL has revoked permission for the Adelaide Crows to wear the state of origin jumper in the first showdown at Adelaide Oval.

7News understands the SANFL commission had no knowledge of the deal which had polarised the football fraternity.

The Adelaide Crows had asked for and were given the state jumper for next month’s Showdown, as announced yesterday afternoon.

But the SANFL made the decision just after 6pm on Thursday night to revoke permission for the Crows to wear the jumper.

Yesterday, SANFL boss Leigh Whicker strongly backed the move, saying in the Crows’ media release: ‘At a time of celebration, it is fitting this nationally recognised guernsey is on display’.

He was unavailable for comment today as the SANFL commission tried to understand how it knew nothing about it.

Commissioners contacted by 7News and local club bosses were very unhappy with the deal.

7News was told it is the first time in recent memory a Crows or Power jumper change has not gone through the commission.
