Rundle Place to 're-energise' Mall

Developers of the new Rundle Place precinct, on the old Harris Scarfe site in the city, claim it will 're-energise' Rundle Mall.

The $385 million development boasts 85 new shops, including Coles and the new Harris Scarfe flagship store, as well as a food court that can seat 500 people and office spaces as well.

It will be 11 stories tall, with retail space taking up the first four floors.

A new carpark will have 600 spaces, 500 for casual parking and 100 for office use.

Developers are confident it will perform well despite tough economic times.

"We have had an exceptionally positive response from all the leading brand retailers," said Ilona Rose, Leasing Manager for Rundle Place.

"Their (retailers) input has been fundamental in the direction and design of the centre."

The building is expected to host local, national and international retailers.

"Rundle Mall is a powerful address in the retail market, and with the birth of Rundle Place it could become stronger," Ms Rose said.

"Adelaide will finally have the opportunity to enjoy the dynamic and energised platform that typifies great CBD centres which Melbourn, Sydney and Brisbane have been evolving and enjoying for some time."

"Rundle Place is visioned to capture and attract some of the most exciting retail brands," she said.

The building is set to open in 2013.
