Wife tries to assassinate politician husband wearing catwoman suit

A French woman is on attempted murder charges for her botched assassination attempt against her politician husband.

44-year-old Laurence Honoré has admitted to stalking in her garden with the intent to kill her husband Christian, a municipal councillor. She said she failed to pull the trigger after a last minute change of heart.

According to the UK's Daily Telegraph, Mr Honoré had often voiced fears of being attacked since he was mugged and his car was burned in 2009. He believed political opponents were behind the attacks and his neighbours thought he was "a touch paranoid".

At midnight on the 14th June, he returned from a council meeting and instantly "sensed a presence" outside his home after he parked the car. He phoned the police but after hanging up, caught site of a person in the shadows.

Hidden in the garden bed was his wife wearing a catwoman outfit, latex gloves, a crash helmet and carrying a .22 revolver.

Police turned up a few minutes later and arrested the woman. She later told investigators she wanted to kill her husband but had lost her resolve.

She faces charges of "attempted murder with premeditation and aggravated violence towards a public figure" although police say the attempted murder charge might be dropped as she had "voluntarily desisted".

At one time, Mrs Honoré wrote a blog called 'My Crazy Family' where she flaunted her apparently happy home life.

Her website slogan was "A family not quite like the others. We're working towards it becoming ordinary and normal".

Legal experts say the story is a case of "frustrated political and family ambitions that turned sour" after he lost a mayoral race in 2008.

Mrs Honoré claimed she was the victim of repeated violence by her husband and said she was depressed and at times suicidal.

She is also accused of enrolling a former French spy and bodyguard in her botched assassination plot.

Both deny any involvement in the claims.

A family friend told La Parisien: "When you know Laurence, she's a very well done-up lady, always very well-dressed and absolutely not sporty. I find it hard to imagine her squatting in the bushes waiting for Christian with a gun in her hand."
