Woman lucky to escape plank car crash

A US woman has very nearly filmed her own fatal car crash after a large plank of wood crashed through her windshield while she was driving.

A 40-second video taken with a camera on a mobile phone has had over a million views, and shows the moment the wood smashes into Wendy Cobb's car on a highway in Shelby, North Carolina.

Amazingly, Ms Cobb survived the incident without a scratch.

The video was believed to be a hoax after it appeared on Youtube on April 1, but was revealed to be true after the woman driving the car was contacted by US TV network CBS.

"I don't know why I didn't scream or cuss or cry, I guess just pure shock. I could barely form words to call 911," she told automobile website Jalopnik.

Ms Cobb said she was filming two trucks in front of her playing a game of "cat and mouse" and blocking traffic in the lanes ahead of her.

"When the truck in front of me hit it, and then his trailer hit it, it just propelled it into me," Jalopnik quoted Wendy as saying.

"I most definitely know how lucky I was. Damage was mostly the hood and windshield, again, very lucky."

In another horrific crash caught on video, last week a car entered a freeway exit in the wrong direction.
