Police catch dine-and-dash scammer with ammunition, shotgun
Police have finally caught up with a man over a string of alleged scams on restaurants across Perth.
The 33-year-old from Warnbro was arrested last night in Northbridge, recognised by hospitality staff after a Seven News report.
Police say he was carrying a bag containing ammunition, a balaclava and a sawn-off shotgun.
Seven News exposed Brett Robert Barrey's scam last night.
Less than an hour later, he was arrested at No Mafia on William Street in Northbridge, allegedly trying to fleece the restaurant in the same way.
Dozens of Perth businesses say he has ripped them off by dining and dashing, racking up massive bills with his signature Jack Daniels and Coke - then claiming he forgot his wallet.
Barrey always promises to come back and pay, but never does.
But last night he didn't get away with it. Staff at No Mafia recognised him and called police.
When police arrived at the busy restaurant they say Barrey was seated with a backpack at his feet that allegedly contained a sawn-off shotgun, ammunition and a balaclava.
Barrey will spend the next seven days at the Frankland Centre on a hospital order.
He is facing 26 charges but police say more will be laid.
