Queensland teen's close call as brick hurled at her mother's car

A 13-year-old girl has had a terrifying experience after part of a brick was hurled at her family's car as they drove along a busy Queensland road.

It struck the window next to her head and the family says the missile was thrown by a child around ten years old.

Lillian Beardsley was the front passenger in her mum's car as they drove along Browns Plains Road.

As they went past a laneway her mum says she saw a shirtless child appear.

"All I heard was the smash against the window," Lillian told 7 News.

The family say it hit Lillian's window at head height and rebounded.

The film of the tinted window stopped glass spraying in.

"Scary thoughts about what could have happened if it wasn't for the tinting," Lillian said.

Her mother Tania Waddell said a "millisecond later or earlier it could have gone through the windscreen".

Tania's four- and seven-year-old daughters were in the backseat.

"I slammed on my brakes, reversed back to, you know, where it happened," she said.

Tania got out of her car, climbed over a railing and started looking for the child who had already fled.

The mother worries the child will do it again and is warning other drivers to be careful.

"If he had been there I would have tried to hold onto him until police got there," she said.

She wants the boy's parents to act too.

"Discipline them. Do something about it. Don't have your kid wandering the streets" Tania said.
