Perth parents charged after baby hospitalised with horrific injuries

A 17-month-old baby boy has been hospitalised in Perth with bruises all over his body in a disturbing alleged child neglect case.

The boy was being treated in Princess Margaret Hospital for extensive fractures and bruising all over his body.

The baby’s mum and dad were arrested by child abuse squad investigators on Thursday.

They were later charged with failing to protect a child from harm.

Doctors at the hospital alerted police after a skeletal x-ray of the child’s body showed chest and rib fractures, arm and hand fractures, a broken pelvis and legs.

The family had been referred to the hospital after a child health nurse noticed a bowed leg from a broken hip.

The boy’s mother, 26, appeared in court on Friday.

She claimed he had had sustained the injuries after the couple's other child, a two-year-old girl had been “playing rough” with the toddler.

The mother was granted bail, under very strict conditions, along with her partner.

Both will appear in court again next month.
