Two trains collide head-on in Luxembourg

At least one person is dead and multiple people are injured after two trains collided head-on in Luxembourg.

According to police, the passenger train crashed into a freight locomotive shortly before 9am local time on Tuesday morning.

One person was pulled from the wreckage and rushed to hospital but died a short time later.

The initial police report stated six people were injured in the wreckage, but rescue workers are still assessing the scene.

It's believed the two trains collided near the Bettembourg yard, which is close to another fatal train crash that left six dead in 2006.

The passenger train had been heading towards France, but it remains unclear exactly how many were onboard.
