'Wannabe weatherman' started bushfire to 'get views on Facebook'

A “wannabe weatherman” has been arrested after he confessed to starting a bushfire to get more attention on his Facebook videos.

The Associated Press reports Johnny Mullins, 21, faces a second-degree arson charge for the fire which began in Letcher County, Kentucky.

US Police have since said Mullins motive was “misguided”.

“He likes to do Facebook videos and have people follow him on his ‘weather forecast,’ so that’s pretty much why he did what he did,” Police Chief James Stephens told the AP.

“He enjoyed the attention he got from the Facebook stuff.”

Police have since said Mullins was not connected to any other fires in the area.

Mullins called his reports “Weather Outlook”.

His most recent video, titled “Dangerous Forest fires to continue,” had more than 5,000 views on Facebook.

Hundreds of bushfires were reported in the area in recent weeks, many of which were caused by arson, according to the Weather Channel.
