Playboy model faces charges, prison after body-shaming elderly woman

A Playboy model is set to face charges from police after they tracked down a woman she allegedly photographed naked in a gym locker room and posted the picture online.

Playboy playmate Dani Mathers, 29, could face up to six months prison after posting the photo of a naked elderly woman and criticising the woman's physique on social media.

The photo of the woman was captioned by the Playmate of the Year 2015 with the words "if I cant unsee this you can't either".

According to TMZ, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) have now located the elderly woman.

She is reportedly in her 70s.

The LAPD will recommend prosecution for dissemination of private images.

This charge carries a sentence of up to six months in jail.

Reaction on social media at the time of the post was firmly against Mathers.

"She makes her living being airbrushed and posing naked... so her opinion isn't valid anyway," Beth Lance wrote.

Another wrote that Ms Mathers should be she "prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law."

Mathers has since made a public apology for the post with a chain of tweets, expressing her need to "reflect" on what she had done.

"I'm sorry for what I did," she wrote. "I need to take some time for myself to reflect on [why] I did this horrible thing."

"Should never make light of another woman's naked body."

Police accused the model of “egregiously violating a member’s right of privacy by taking a picture of her while naked in the shower, and then humiliating her by posting the picture with a disgusting caption”.

Mathers has claimed she had meant to send the photo to a friend privately, but "didn't know how Snapchat worked" and accidentally sent it publicly instead.

The elderly woman is now "more than willing" to testify and cooperate in any way she can with police to bring Mathers to justice, according to TMZ.

Speaking to The Wrap, the model's lawyer, Tom Mesereau, said he "hoped the rumours were not true."

"Dani Mathers never tried to hurt anyone at any time and certainly never tried to break the law."

The Playboy model has subsequently been banned from all LA Fitness gyms, stood down from her Playmate duties and suspended from her position at an LA radio station.
