Family claims $1.4m Lotto win

A Scarborough family who won $1.4 million in Saturday's Lotto draw have shared their modest plans for their newfound riches.

The family today claimed the $1.42 million prize after buying their winning ticket for Saturday's draw at City Beach.

New bath towels are among the family's shopping list which also includes a trip to New York, paying off their mortgage and paying to for their childrens' educations.

“This has made us feel much more comfortable, I’m relieved I won’t have to work until I’m 100 now," the man said.

When their winning numbers were announced, the couple re-checked their ticket five times.

The woman joked about how she almost broke her husband's back while jumping on his back in celebration, once it became clear they were winners.

“It’s just like a dream” said the man.

Ocean Village News owner Jun Deng said the ticket is the second division one ticket it has sold in two years.

There have been 39 division one Lotto winners in WA since January 1.
