LandCorp is seeking proposals for a new service station and truck stop in Broome.

Regional Development and Lands Minister Terry Redman announced the development opportunity earmarked for the $14.9 million Broome Road Industrial Park.

Situated 8km from the town centre and 16km from the Port of Broome, Mr Redman said the 16,103sqm site would provide a major service point for vehicles en-route between Perth and northern Australia.

"Developed in close collaboration with the Shire of Broome, the Yawuru traditional owners and key stakeholders, Broome Road Industrial Park will help meet demand from the growing number of businesses looking to expand, relocate or establish new operations in this popular destination," Mr Redman said.

"This project is a reflection of the confidence that exists in the future of Broome and the broader Kimberley region.

"The State Government shares this confidence and has committed $14.9 million in Royalties for Regions funding to the industrial park."

The proposed service station lot and truck stop has been selected because of its proximity to an existing truck laydown/breakdown area, increasing the potential to service large vehicles and trucks travelling into or through Broome.

The site is one of nine lots to be offered to the market as part of the 19ha first stage of the Broome Road Industrial Park.

One lot is already under contract.

To commemorate the start of stage one civil works, Mr Redman was joined on site for a sod-turning ceremony by representatives from the Shire of Broome and the Yawuru traditional owners, who have given the site the name of Warrgamburu Birragun, which means "working place in the bush".
