Hardware giant buys land in town business park
Hedland residents can now bank on Saturday morning sausage sizzles and increased competition in the hardware market after Bunnings last month officially purchased land in the Kingsford Smith Business Park.
The Town of Port Hedland, meanwhile, has already banked the $2.9 million from the land transaction after Bunnings made its payment to the local government last week.
Mayor Kelly Howlett said the Town was excited by the deal.
"We are thrilled that the property transaction for Bunnings at Kingsford Smith Business Park closed last week (27/5) and $2.9 million was deposited in our bank," she said.
"I know our community has been excited ever since the Bunnings signs first went up."
The land transaction comes as a welcome boost to those marketing land in the business park with the downturn in the mining sector having recently affected business economic confidence in the region.
Town staff believe the sale will give other businesses the confidence to now push ahead with developing their own interests in the business park.
"This marks an important milestone for economic development and the Kingsford Smith Business Park - it's our first sale and one that we expect will see the foundation for many more to come," Ms Howlett said.
