Broome officer cut on face

A Broome police officer received lacerations to her face after she was allegedly assaulted by a 37-year-old Fitzroy Crossing woman overnight.

Police were called to a domestic dispute in Forrest Street in Broome at about 8.50pm.

A woman at the house was issued a police order not to return to the address.

About five hours later police were called back to the residence after the woman allegedly breached the order.

As police tried to arrest the woman, she allegedly struck a female officer to the face, causing a large laceration.

The police officer required stitches for the wound. She was admitted to Broome Hospital but later discharged.

It is not known whether she will return to duty today.

A 37-year-old Fitzroy Crossing woman was charged with assault a public officer, obstruct a police officer and breach of public order.

She is due to appear in Broome Magistrates Court today.
