Juliet is a very lucky joey.

The 2kg kangaroo was handed into Kalgoorlie-Boulder's Department of Parks and Wildlife office on Thursday afternoon after her mother was killed by a car.

Luckily for Juliet a passer-by checked her mother's pouch, where they found the eight to nine-month-old marsupial.

DPaW conservation officer Jenifer Jackson is now calling on Goldfields drivers to check the pouch when they see a dead kangaroo.

"If they see one that looks freshly run over, it's a good idea to stop and have a look," she said.

"If you notice it's a female with a pouch just have a look in the pouch to see if there's a joey."

Ms Jackson also asked that, if able, people remove the kangaroo from the side of the road to help reduce the number of wedge-tail eagles, which are attracted to the corpse, being run over as well.

Juliet has been handed over to the Goldfields Wildlife Rehabilitators which operates just outside of Coolgardie.

Speaking with the Kalgoorlie Miner yesterday, GWR wildlife co-ordinator Rowena Walker said Juliet was in a good condition.

The new addition takes the number of kangaroos in the GWR's care to 68; 12 are in hand-made pouches and 56 in various stages of care.

Tips for dealing with injured animals are available on the DPaW website.

People who find injured or orphaned wildlife are encouraged to call the GWR carers on 0409 294 661, 0427 922 767, 0407 387 473 or 9026 7630.
