A cross-dressing thief dubbed Mrs Doubtfire has robbed a bank in Southern California.

The robber who was wearing a wavy blond wig, black-framed glasses and navy blue scrubs robbed a Santa Cruz bank for an undisclosed amount of money last Friday afternoon.

The man used a note demanding money to carry off the theft, according to the Santa Cruz Police Department. No weapons were seen and nobody was hurt during the robbery.

Police have compared the suspect, who was also wearing a necklaces and carrying a handbag, to the title character of the 1993 film Mrs Doubtfire, who cross-dressed to spend more time with his children.

According to police the suspect visited another bank an hour before the robbery, but left without committing any criminal act.

Police believe the thief was “possibly casing the bank” and added that when bank employees contacted the suspicious person they were surprised to see that it was actually a man.

"The Santa Cruz Police Department is in need of some help from the community," the department stated when they released the suspect's photos on Tuesday.

"We believe these are great photos of the suspect and somebody in the community has to recognize this person."

The suspect has been further described as approximately 25-35 years old, 160-170 pounds, 5’5” tall, with dark skin.
