A Hong Kong man accused of murdering, dismembering and cooking his parents has been found guilty of their murder.

Henry Chau, 31, was convicted of the gruesome crime after a 20 day trial heard he planned and executed the murder of his elderly parents, leaving them packed into bins and lunch boxes “like barbecued pork”.

The South China Morning Post reported Chau was convicted by an 8-1 majority verdict of killing Chau Wing-ki, 65, and Siu Yuet-yee, 63, despite pleading not guilty to the crime.

His friend, Tse Chun-kei was found not guilty on two counts of murder but was guilty of preventing a lawful burial. He was released after already serving more than a year in custody.

Chau is yet to be sentenced.

The severed heads of Chau’s elderly parents were discovered in refrigerators in a blood soaked apartment just days after they were reported missing. Other remains were found in a rubbish bin and packed into lunchboxes with rice.

According to evidence presented at the trial, Chau planned the murders in advance, even constructing a shopping list of the tools and equipment he would need to dispose of the bodies.

The trial heard he planned to mislead police into thinking his parents were visiting mainland China, reasoning investigators could not prove murder without bodies.

He planned to spend three days butchering and disposing of the remains using knives, hammers, bleach, rice cookers and a microwave to assist in the task.

The court also heard that Chau sent text messages to friends admitting to the murders, and told family members he planned to become a serial killer.
