Noongar protesters camping at Heirisson Island have pitched new tents within hours of the removal of their belongings this morning.

About 10 people, including children, were at the protest site when police and City of Perth rangers arrived at about 9am.

Police said about four camps, including tents and windbreaks, were located on the island when officers arrived to oversee the removal of camping equipment for a second time this month.

“Items not removed by people present were loaded onto City of Perth trucks and camp fires were extinguished by Department of Fire and Emergency Services officers,” a police spokeswoman said.

The protesters said their spirit was strong and vowed to stay on the island.

Police did not arrest anyone and no move-on notices were issued.

Protesters call the site a 'refugee camp' for people they claim would be displaced if the State Government's planned closures of up to 150 remote Aboriginal communities go ahead.
