Volunteers vow to revive Binningup club

Binningup Country Club is back in the hands of community volunteers, who are determined to offer a great venue for functions and clubs and support the town with the profits.

For the past six months, the club was struggling to pay overheads and wages for manager Ros Pitchers because of a lack of cash flow.

The club operates under the Binningup Community Association and the committee decided to put it back into the hands of volunteers to be able to support organisations and events.

All profits will be returned to the association for the committee to decide how the money will be distributed.

"We hope to give back to the community through the association and help with projects as we have done in the past, such as the Binningup Spring Fair or the cricket pitch," said manager Michael Strange.

Mr Strange said the venue was fantastic but underused for functions, resulting in less income.

"Volunteers have come forward and we now have six approved managers and some with a Responsible Service of Alcohol ticket," he said.

"The bowling and golf clubs will handle their own functions and we have outsourced meals on Fridays and Saturdays to local resident Joy Stewart.

"The Friday night meals will continue and we will trial Saturday night meals from March 14.

"There are not many opportunities for an affordable meal in town and it is open to anyone from Binningup or surrounding towns."

Reservations can be made up to a day prior to the date of the booking at the Binningup General Store or by phoning Mr Strange on 0439 201 778.
