Siege report delivered to PM

Tony Abbott has received an official report into the Martin Place siege and has pledged to release it by the end of the month.

The prime minister says the head of his department delivered the report to him on Wednesday morning.

"We will carefully digest this report," Mr Abbott told Macquarie Radio in Sydney.

The government will release the report and its response to it by month's end, he said.

"Plainly the Martin Place murderer took advantage of our system. That's what this report is designed to expose to us and we will take the strongest possible action to ensure this can't happen again," he said.
