Brierty has won a $69 million Main Roads WA contract to upgrade the North West Coastal Highway between Mia-Mia and Barradale, in the Gascoyne and Pilbara regions.

Brierty will perform the work in a joint venture partnership with local contractor Bocol Constructions.

The project covers about 102km of road and includes the design and construction of two bridges, road widening, earthworks, pavements, drainage, and associated infrastructure.

Design works will begin immediately, with the contract expected to be completed by the end of 2016.

Managing director Peter McBain said the contract further built on the company's strong track record in designing and constructing major road projects for Main Roads WA, particularly on regional roads.

"Brierty has a long history with Main Roads and we have won repeat business by consistently delivering projects successfully, safely and on time," he said.

"This is an important project and adds to the road upgrade works Brierty is currently delivering for Main Roads in regional Western Australia on the Great Northern Highway and on the Great Eastern Highway.

"It is also in addition to road works we're doing for Perth Airport in constructing the new Airport Drive and the roads we are currently building for Rio Tinto in the Pilbara.

"The timing of the commencement of the construction phase of this project will align perfectly with the availability of resources finishing at other road projects."

Brierty shares were up 2.5 cents, or 6.33 per cent, to 42 cents at 12.15pm.
