Spedding insists no involvement in boy’s disappearance

The man whose home was raided by police investigating the disappearance of three-year-old William Tyrell insists he had no involvement in the boy going missing.

Last week, William Spedding’s home at Bonny Hills on the mid-north coast of New South Wales was swarming with police looking for any sign of the boy who went missing from his grandmother’s Kendall home on September 12.

Mr Spedding gave police a 10-page statement and a DNA swab to assist with the investigation following William’s disappearance, News Corp reports.

While Mr Spedding had been at the home four days earlier to quote a repair for a washing machine, he maintains he had nothing to do with the boy’s disappearance.

“I had no involvement, I wasn’t there on the day it occurred,” Mr Spedding told News Corp.

“I understand I was a person of interest because a few days before I was out there, a few days after his disappearance I was out there.

“I understand they are looking into that and I accept that fully.”

He told News Corp he was certain the police inquiry would clear his name.

Homicide detectives and forensic police spent two days combing the property, including digging up the yard and draining a septic tank.

Police also seized vehicles for testing, two of which the couple were allowed to collect just yesterday.

Mr Spedding and his wife are still waiting for police to finish processing a third.

“I’ve always hoped for a good outcome for the Tyrell family. It’s the fact that we have children too, and could it happen to us?” Mr Spedding said.

“That’s something that’s always on our mind.”

The property is just one of several searched by police since William Tyrell disappeared on September 12 last year.

Police have previously searched every house in the estate where William disappeared while playing in his grandmother's backyard.

An extensive search of surrounding bushland and waterways failed to find any trace of William, who went missing in his favourite Spider-Man costume.
