Three charged over crime spree

Three men who allegedly stole a car before going on a crime spree north-east of Perth have been charged by police.

The silver Mazda sedan was stolen from a home on Talbot Road in Woodlands on Tuesday, police say.

It is alleged the car was then used in burglaries in Baskerville, Brigadoon and Gidgegannup.

The car was spotted by police in Baskerville at 1.45pm yesterday and pursued through Baskerville, Herne Hill and Middle Swan.

The driver lost control of the vehicle and hit a tree as he attempted to avoid stinger road spikes deployed by police at the intersection of Great Northern Highway and Dale Road.

“All three men fled from the stolen vehicle into a nearby vineyard and two men were caught within a short time,” the spokeswoman said.

“The third man was apprehended with the assistance of the dog squad and police airwing.”

A shotgun allegedly stolen from a property on O’Brien Road in Gidgegannup was recovered when the car was searched.

The 25-year-old driver from Beechboro was charged with stealing and driving offences.

A 19-year-old from Brockman and a 23-year-old Yokine man have also been charged.

All three will appear in Perth Magistrate’s Court today.
