Vandal allegedly assaulted train driver

A 23-year-old Attadale man allegedly assaulted a train driver and depot master after vandalising a train in East Perth last night.

A police spokeswoman said the man was seen spray painting the side of a train at the Claisebrook railway station between 8pm and 9pm.

It will be alleged he punched the driver of the train in the face before fleeing on foot.

The Claisebrook depot master and a security guard gave chase, but the accused allegedly punched the depot master in the arm.

The depot master was then assaulted by a second offender, who appeared to use a baton to strike him repeatedly.

Perth transit officers eventually apprehended the first man.

No one was seriously hurt.

The 23-year-old has been charged with assaulting a public officer, assault and trespass, and criminal damage.

He is due to appear in the Perth Magistrate’s Court on February 24.

His alleged accomplice is still at large and anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
