A Busselton woman who lost her engagement ring has been reunited with it, thanks to a clever teenager and Busselton police.

Ann West was heartbroken when she realised she had lost her 39-year-old engagement ring while shopping earlier this week.

After asking at the shops she'd been to, Mrs West was resigned to the fact that she would never see her precious diamond solitaire again.

But out of the blue she received a surprise phone call from Busselton police who had located the ring on Facebook.

"I think I cried when I found out. I was so happy," Mrs West said.

"It's wonderful to see there are still honest people out there."

The ring was found on the floor of Busselton Boulevard shopping centre by 14-year-old Shanelle Jooste.

Yesterday her mother Natasha Jooste proudly presented Mrs West with the ring at Busselton police station.

"As soon as she found it Shanelle did what any 14-year-old would do - she jumped on the internet," Mrs Jooste said.

"She took a photo and put it on Facebook and asked people what inscription was on the inside of the ring. I'm very proud of her. She could see it wasn't just any old ring - it had to go back to the rightful owner."
