Jazz in the Jarrah attracts cash support

Helen Rose is set to play with the Manjimup Jazz Ensemble at the Jazz in the Jarrah later this month.

ORGANISERS of the Jazz in the Jarrah are singing a sweet tune after an injection of cash.

The concert at the Manjimup Timber and Heritage Park on January 24 will feature the Manjimup Jazz Ensemble and two groups from Perth - Jake and the Mint Band and Phil Hatton and the Manhattons.

The event has received $4000 from the Manjimup Shire Council, $4000 from Lotterywest and $1000 from the South West Development Commission.

Manjimup Lions Club member Geoff Mabey said the money from the council would be used to promote the event to a wider audience than in previous years.

"We've set up a website and we are doing some advertising on GWN for the first time," he said.

"The money from Lotterywest will be used for the general running of the event like the sound and lighting."

Mr Mabey said they had received good support from the community and Cutts Transport had donated a semi-trailer to use as a stage for the festival.

"I rang them up one day to ask how much and they replied 'nothing'," he said.

"This year we have some special tickets like the early bird tickets for $30 which are available until midday on January 17 as well as gold tickets."
