School crossing given priority

Worried parents at Cowaramup Primary School are confident they will have a crosswalk for their children by the start of term next year.

Following a meeting between Main Roads WA, the Shire of Augusta- Margaret River and school representatives brokered by Vasse MLA Libby Mettam — whose new seat takes in Cowaramup and Gracetown — the crosswalk has been elevated to a priority project, according to parent and parents and citizens’ committee member Karina Ayers.

“They are working towards having the crossing available for the beginning of next year,” Ms Ayers said.

“All (parties) came and met really well and agreed it was a busy area and it needed to be done.”

Parents and teachers were worried peak hour and after-school traffic on Bussell Highway in Cowaramup meant primary students were running a gauntlet that entailed a lot of risk, Mrs Mettam said.
