Caruana responds to corner's blast

UPDATE: "Working Class Man" Vinnie Caruana was able to knock off early on Friday night after he recorded a third-round KO win over Moses Ioelu at Metro City.

Caruana, the WA light-heavyweight champion, started slowly and at the end of the first round copped a volley from trainer Angelo Hyder.

The verbal blast shocked Caruana into shape. The Northam fighter upped his game in the second before pinning Ioelu in the corner, and the Auckland-based Samoan went down and failed to beat the count.

The win was 30-year-old Caruana's fourth in five fights. Late substitute Ioelu also boasts four victories - sadly he has now lost 47.

Caruana's gym-mate Luke Sharp, the State super-middleweight title-holder, had an even quicker night when he took out Marco Tuhumary in under two minutes of the opening round with a flurry of body shots.

Sharp, now 11-2-2, has carded two quick-fire wins since joining Hyder's gym in Wangara. The 26-year-old is now ready for a step-up in class of opponent, something he seems keen to embrace after calling out Jarrod Fletcher.

Other winners on Dragon Fire's Thunderdome IX show were Jeremy Allan, Paul Morrison, Jacob McBride, Levi Quartermaine and James Bertolami.

There were also three Muay Thai bouts, with Steph Glew, James Rowland and Chantel Jones all prevailing.
