Cafes targeted by till thief

Mirrabooka detectives are asking for the public’s help to identify a man who has stolen tills from Perth restaurants and cafes over the past fortnight.

The man entered nine businesses between November 25 and December 4 in suburbs including Yokine, Sorrento, Beechboro, Ballajura, Wembley Downs and Osborne Park.

On each occasion the man, dressed in a hooded jumper and sunglasses, enters the shops and removes the till from the counter before running from the premises.

After leaving the stores the man is believed to run to a silver Honda Civic being driven by another man.

The registration of the vehicle may be 1CEZ 913.

The car was reported stolen from a burglary on a residence in Tuart Hill on 25 November.

Det-Sen Const. Terri Bulley said the man has not threatened staff but police were keen to catch the thief before his behaviour escalated.

“Someone might get hurt because if they are rushing out, they might get hit,” she said.

The offender is described as being fair or olive skinned, of a slim build, 180cm tall, and clean shaven. On each occasion wore a hooded jumper, shorts and distinctive runners – black with white soles.

Detectives are specifically asking for any witnesses who were in the shops in question at the time of the thefts to contact police.

Anyone who can assist in this investigation should call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
