Petrol prices on the way down

Perth motorists are on track to enjoy the cheapest bowser prices in more than two years as oil prices slump around the globe.

Unleaded petrol in Perth edged down 2.2 a litre last week to average 134.9. At the weekend they fell further, hitting an average 132.4 a litre across the city.

And motorists could buy unleaded for around $1.26 a litre at service stations across Perth yesterday.

FuelWatch figures show prices were last around current levels in July 2012 when they averaged 133.5 a litre.

CommSec chief economist Craig James said petrol prices could fall another 10 a litre unless the Australian dollar fell sharply.
