Schoolies hit by price rises at caravan parks

School leavers preparing for a big weekend of celebrations are being stung with caravan parks at Victor harbor increasing their rates dramatically for the annual Schoolies festival.

More than 10,000 school leavers will flock to the beachside town south of Adelaide for the festival, but many will be paying a premium for the fun.

The popular Victor Harbor Beachfront Holiday Park, is charging $200 per person per night for a cabin, while a powered camp site is not much better value at $100 per person per night.

That is a price four times higher than off-peak rates.

Another caravan park a few streets away has also upped its rates for schoolies,$116 per person per night for a cabin and $63 for a powered site, but it is still cheaper than the competition.

Holiday Park management said the price hike is needed in order to cover the thousands of dollars spent on security, maintenance and cleaning during the festival.

For some, staying at a holiday rental could prove to be better value, with one property manager telling 7News the prices do not increase for schoolies, but they would increase the bond to cover any potential damages.
