Rain could send dam over the top

Wellington Dam is very close to overflowing.

The Wellington Dam could overflow in the next few days, with heavy rain expected to tip levels over the edge.

The dam sits at 97 per cent capacity with storms and rain expected throughout the South West over the next few days.

Last September the dam overflowed for the first time in four years, but it is expected to happen sooner this year with the dam already holding 20 per cent more water than this time last year.

Last year when the dam overflowed thousands of people rushed to have a look.

The dam holds about 182 billion litres of water.
